In-Form Exhibition

In 2009 Sasha set up a Modern Stone Carving course with students at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh (RUFA). This was the first course of its kind to be implemented in Cambodia, a country known for its extraordinary ancient stone temples and sculptures but with no contemporary stone carving other than replication.

The educational art project encouraged individualistic expression and was funded by FOKCI (Friends of Khmer Culture). The project involved a series of workshops covering health and safety, the history of stone carving from ancient cultures through to contemporary stone carving, practical model making and techniques in carving stone (all taught and coordinated by Sasha).

At the end of the project an exhibition of the finished stone sculptures were displayed at RUFA and then at Hotel de la Paix in 2010. The exhibition titled In-Form was the first large-scale exhibition Sasha curated during a 2-year tenure as Hotel de la Paix’s Arts Lounge curator.
